Bio

After having completed my PhD at Sorbonne université in 2011 on subduction zone dynamics (field, petrology and numerical modelling), I have been awarded a A. von Humboldt fellowship to work as a post-doc at GFZ Potsdam in the group of Lithosphere dynamics (2012-2016). I have developed there an expertize in the identification of paleo-seismicity fingerprints. Then, I obtained an associate professor position at Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (IPGP) between 2016 and 2021 in the Tectonics and Lithosphere mechanics department. Finally, I obtained a professorship position at Ecole Normale Supérieure in Lyon in 2021. I am now head of this Earth Science department and chief editor of the journal Tectonophysics.

Permeability of subducted oceanic crust revealed by eclogite-facies vugs

In this new paper, we show that the permeability of the downgoing oceanic lithosphere may be so low that sometimes the metamorphic fluid just remains trapped in the rock undergoing eclogitization, forming spectacular vugs (geods) filled by garnet and omphacite. This phenomenon could well impact our budgets of H2O buried in the mantle by the subduction process....
